The course is designed for students who wish to pursue an undergraduate degree in fashion design or related areas such as industrial design or product development.

DESIGN CAREERS – The fashion industry offers a wide range of career options within a variety of practice areas such as womenswear, menswear, childrenswear, knitwear and sportswear to name just a few.

  • Designers – are responsible for creating the visual identity of an entire collection or line of products. They work closely with manufacturers to ensure the finished product meets their specifications for quality and fit.
  • Pattern cutters – create original designs from scratch using CAD software (automated design system) or hand sketching on paper before transferring them into 3D forms using Adobe Illustrator CS6 software .

Marketers & Buyers/Stylists – are responsible for promoting brands through various media channels such as magazines or newspapers; attending trade shows; talking at conferences; blogging about trends within their niche market segments

The construction techniques you will develop will enable you to produce garments that are innovative and challenging within the contemporary fashion environment. Additional specialist units relating to knitwear, sportswear and tailoring are also available.

A key feature of the course is that it will enable you to develop a personal style and demonstrate it within a professional context. You will be able to design and produce innovative garments for clients, using specialist techniques such as knitting, sportswear and tailoring. The course also offers opportunities for individual research into areas such as sustainability, ethical fashion production or alternative materials used in textiles.

The construction techniques you will develop will enable you to produce garments that are innovative and challenging within the contemporary fashion environment. It is crucial that these skills are transferred into finding employment after graduating from university because they are transferable across all industries including design agency work or freelance work with designers based abroad!

You will be assessed on your ability to research, generate ideas, design and present garment concepts through written assignments; creative and practical workshops where you will have the opportunity to explore your ideas in 2D form before moving onto 3D experimentation; development of garment design ideas into 2D line drawings such as technical flats and specifications; development of garment designs into 3D forms through pattern cutting; production of samples, mock-ups and garments including grading; presentation of designs in showroom settings; live projects working with local designers.
